Essay

At this stage im still at the stage of deciding which question i want to use for my essay... After our informal talk about our essays and hearing other peoples ideas, im pretty sure of which question i will use, but here is a look at what ideas i had.

- Does self-portraiture give the entire truth about the artist. Because they see themselves in their own way?
- Has Digital art (portraiture) destroyed or changed peoples views about original portraiture?
- Do you think using children in portraiture and photography has changed over time, due to what the audience say?
- Why do you think airbrushing has become common and sort after in this day and age?
- Can portraiture be a good or bad advertisement?

Ideas from research

After looking at Lorretta Lux, i was pushed towards the idea of children, so obviously myself at a younger age.. But not in the same way as she portrayed them, i would like to use emotion in my portrait. I like to think that when i was younger i didnt really have any cares in the world and that i was always happy..

However, at this stage im not just going to completely narrow my ideas down to just this, because there are so many styles that have yet been explored.

Looking forward to seeing this, not like other animated films.. Book from my childhood, so hope they dont ruin the story

Chuck Close

The reason i am drawn to Chuck Close's work is because i feel his portraits don't always show full emotion and sometimes hides what he is trying to say... I would like to possibly interpret something along these lines into my own portraits.. Not so much the fact that he pixilates his work, but more on the side of hiding his feelings and emotions..



















The image above is a prime example of hiding emotions and feelings.. There is something really soothing about not knowing the full identity and information about the person in the portrait.



















The image above is slightly different to other pieces by Close because it shows a lot more about the man in the image... I also like this one because it looks like a mugshot from a prison or something, giving you the idea that he could be a criminal

David Hockney

One of the reasons that i choose Hockney to research is because he is always changing his style and the way he produces portraits... Unlike other artists he has not been held back by thinking he is not just a photographer but can do anything if he believes in it..

The collection of images below are just a few of his works that i reaaly enjoy.. I like them because each little image is different from the last, be it, time, age or colour, it gives the image a look of activity and movement, unlike a normal photograph which can only give out little information...

Research for Project 1:

After the two lectures and the seminar, i looked at all of the artists that i had noted down so that i could filter and decide which artists would give me the best inspiration and motivation with my own portrait... These are the artists that i will be taking a closer look at..

Also if i come across any artists that i havent heard of or seen there work before, i will post their work for all to see...

Persepolis

Last night after coming in from football, i was flicking through the channels and came across this on Film 4... Id never heard of it before until then... The film is about a girl who grows up during the Iranian Revolution and who his shipped off to another country to get a better life by her parents... The story line is breathtaking and i really enjoyed the film, because the majority of the film is in black and white, it makes even more appealing. I would recommend this to anyone.. I will be watching this again
